New product lines, new eras and rebranding are only a fraction of the surprises emerging at BaselWorld, the Super Bowl of the watch industry. Here are a few of the show’s highlights.

Porsche Design starts new chapter
Porsche Design has unveiled its new strategy while concurrently showcasing the company’s new timepieces at Baselworld.

“We see clear opportunities for a strong designer brand in the premium timepiece segment for men,” says Dr. Christian Kurtzke, CEO of the Porsche Design Group.

Kurtze added that Porsche Design will position their brands by mixing sporty elegance, function, technological innovation and an attractive price-quality ratio.

Under the new strategy, Porsche Design released the following timepieces:
– 1919 Datetimer Eternity (Passion for architecture and design)
– 1919 Chronotimer (Passion for motorsports and pure performance)

Carl F. Butcherer refreshes brand identity
In a brand presentation that pays tribute to the company’s past achievements, Swiss watchmaker Carl F. Bucherer unveiled its refreshed brand identity.

“Carl F. Bucherer possesses an extraordinary heritage. We are continuing to develop ourselves by going back to our roots and reinterpreting them for the future,” explains Sascha Moeri, CEO of Carl F. Bucherer. Moeri discussed the brand’s updated corporate identity and the launch of the new brand.

Lastly, the company debuted their exhibition stand, which was draped completely in gold, complete with the brand’s refreshed logo.

inWatch partners with Qualcomm and Borqs for smartwatch standardization

Qualcomm, inWatch and Borqs have announced a strategic partnership in a launch ceremony officiated by Baselworld’s China Pavilion. This partnership is designed to ease barriers for traditional watch brands and manufacturers who want to integrate next-gen smart capabilities into their watches.

inWatch, a veteran in the wearables industry, is leading the initiative. In its four years in business, the company has already made notable partnerships with Tencent, Swarovski and Alibaba.
