Oshawa jewellery store victim of armed robbery
On Tuesday, March 14, Valdi’s Jewellery Shop in Oshawa was the victim of a violent armed robbery.
Police have reported that four people, two of which were armed with handguns, entered the store, smashed glass cabinets, and stole merchandise. It has also been alleged that a 62-year-old employee was assaulted. The individual was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Three 19-year-olds, a 21-year-old, and a 16-year-old are now in custody for the crime. The perpetrators, all of whom are from Toronto, face firearm and robbery charges. They are all being held for a bail hearing.
“Armed robberies like this are unpreventable,” says John Lamont, director of loss prevention at JVC Canada. “There’s nothing you can do to stop them. My one suggestion is to ensure that your staff are properly trained to deal with these situations. If someone is performing an armed robbery, your staff shouldn’t make sudden movements, and should follow instructions given by the perpetrators. This will ensure their own safety. Then, they should lock the doors and call the police.
